The requirement for this project was to build a school for approximately 200 pupils, located in the river delta of Bangladesh. The main challenge for Valerian Althammer and myself, was to find a solution for the regular repeating flood season. After extensive research, we decided to use the traditional solution and developed our building using local building material and construction methods. The result is an elevated two-storied bamboo building that offers space for four classrooms, staff and utility rooms, canteen and bathrooms. Even in time of flood, the building can be used without compromise due to its seven-meter elevated platform forming the ground floor. In dry season, the space below the platform offers a huge shaded playground.
